ARGE ÖVV – Association of the Austrian Public Transport Authorities

The Association of the Austrian Public Transport Authorities – ARGE ÖVV (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der österreichischen Verkehrsverbund-Organisationsgesellschaften OG) is the association of the 7 Austrian transport authorities.

ARGE ÖVV is comprised of the seven Austrian public transport authorities: Public Transport Authority Eastern Region (Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region), Public Transport Authority of Upper Austria (Oberösterreichischer Verkehrsverbund), Public Transport Authority of Salzburg (Salzburger Verkehrsverbund), Public Transport Authority of Tyrol (Verkehrsverbund Tirol), Public Transport Authority of Vorarlberg (Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg), Public Transport Authority of Styria (Verkehrsverbund Steiermark) and Public Transport Authority of Carinthia (Verkehrsverbund Kärntner Linien).

Our Objectives

As association of the seven public transport authorities in Austria we ensure public mobility for everyone. We implement and constantly optimize a climate-friendly, sustainable public transport network that is accessible and affordable for everyone. Our subjects, goals and tasks have continuously evolved over the years and our collaborations have been developed further. Thus, we have become a significant and one of the main players in Austria’s public transport. As a competent and strong association, we represent the interests of public transport in national and international projects and industry initiatives in order to shape and continuously optimize mobility in Austria. The main task of ARGE ÖVV is to develop, collect, provide and operate an Austria-wide standardized public traffic information platform for local, regional and cross-national public transport. Both scheduled and real-time data as well as disruption reports are to be made available to end customers.

History & Background

Our starting point was the development of an Austria-wide standardized online traffic information platform for holistic public transport data in the course of the funded project “Traffic Information Austria” (Verkehrsauskunft Österreich). The project aimed to create an Austria-wide, multi- and intermodal journey planner for which the seven public transport authorities should provide public transport date (timetable and real-time data as well as incident messages). As a legal basis, the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft der österreichischen Verkehrsverbund-Organisationsgesellschaften” (ARGE ÖVV), was thus founded in 2012.
